How the ranking works
Data as of 2026-08-06This ranking uses the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer (critics' freshness score) to tier the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) theatrical releases — 38 movies in all. The scores reflect critical reception only and don't necessarily line up with box office or personal taste; a crowd-pleasing blockbuster isn't guaranteed a high score. To sort by your own viewing preferences, drag the template at the bottom of the article.

Top tier (90% and above)
The most consistently well-reviewed of the bunch, and the safest choices for jumping into the MCU. The franchise-opening Iron Man and the climactic Endgame both land here.

How to choose
New to the MCU? Start with Iron Man and move forward in timeline order, or jump straight to the top-tier standalone picks (Black Panther, Shang-Chi, Guardians of the Galaxy). Want the main storyline at its peak? Watch the four Avengers films. Just want the safest bets? The top ten are basically sure things. Completionists can work down the list by score and leave anything below 60% for last. The Spider-Man films are consistently well-reviewed, so fans of the character can follow those as their own thread.
