Compiled 2026-09-26. The New York Times published the full “100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century” on 2026-09-25. Voters named series that premiered on or after 1 January 2000. More than 500 actors, showrunners, and other TV people each submitted 10 titles. No. 1 is Breaking Bad. The paper released the list in batches of 20 starting 2026-09-22 and reached No. 1 on 2026-09-25. IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Rolling Stone sit on TV Series Rankings. The sitcom pool is the Sitcoms Tier List.

True Detective is Season 1 only, year 2014. Beef is Season 1 only, year 2023. Twin Peaks: The Return is the 2017 season. Planet Earth is marked 2006, the first series. The printable list uses the U.S. title The Great British Baking Show; the Chinese Wikipedia article uses 大英烤焗大赛 for The Great British Bake Off.
How this page is ordered
The table follows the printable list. Chinese names reuse titles already locked on the sitcom page, then the mainland name in the Chinese Wikipedia lead. Where there is no standalone Chinese article, the Chinese column keeps the English title. The OA’s wiki page is titled 先见之明 while the lead sentence says 初使, so that row stays in English.
The published accounts do not spell out a point formula. The interactive page’s summary says more than 500 stars, showrunners, and other TV names voted on series released since 1 January 2000. ScreenCrush and World of Reel both say The Sopranos, which premiered in January 1999, was off the ballot. ScreenCrush, quoting the Times, names Elisabeth Moss, Adam Scott, Bryan Cranston, Rose Byrne, Colman Domingo, Jason Bateman, Damon Lindelof, Lena Dunham, Lena Waithe, and Noah Hawley among the voters.
