Fast-Food Chain Rankings
A breakdown of the Brand Finance Restaurants 2026 Top 10, observations on Haidilao, Mixue, and Luckin Coffee, plus the QSR 50 2026 U.S. systemwide sales Top 20 with comparative tiers, and a draggable template.

How the ranking works
Data as of 2026-08-06For chain restaurants, two metrics are all you need: brand value from Brand Finance Restaurants (global scope) and U.S. systemwide sales from QSR Magazine's "QSR 50 2026." McDonald's tops both lists; KFC ranks third globally in brand value but roughly 19th in U.S. sales—the gap comes down to how much of its footprint sits outside the U.S. versus inside China and other markets.

Brand Strength and Chinese Chains
The top brand by value and the top by "brand strength" are not the same. Haidilao leads with a BSI of 89.5 (AAA), ranked the strongest in the restaurant category for consecutive years; the UK's Greggs follows at about 88.2, and McDonald's is third at roughly 88.1. Mixue enters the ranking as a new addition at about $4.6 billion, landing around 12th; Luckin Coffee comes in at roughly $2.4 billion (up about 40%), around 19th. The press release sums these up as a Chinese expansion model leaning on "volume plus price positioning."
| Brand | Observation | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Haidilao | No. 1 in brand strength; value about $4.4 billion (up about 22%) | BSI 89.5 / AAA |
| Greggs | Strength Rank 2 | BSI 88.2 / AAA |
| McDonald's | Strength Rank 3; Value Rank 1 | BSI 88.1 / AAA |
| Mixue Ice Cream & Tea | New entrant, around No. 12 | About $4.6 billion |
| Luckin Coffee | Around No. 19 | About $2.4 billion, up roughly +40% |
| Chick-fil-A | One of the fastest-growing in value | About +44% |

Ranked by U.S. systemwide sales (in millions of dollars). McDonald's leads with roughly $55.06 billion; Starbucks follows at about $30.25 billion; Chick-fil-A is third at approximately $23.92 billion. Taco Bell, Dunkin', Wendy's, Chipotle, Burger King, Domino's, and Subway round out the top ten. KFC sits at around No. 19 on the U.S. list (about $4.68 billion)—a contrast to its No. 3 global brand value ranking. Figures marked with an asterisk (*) are QSR magazine estimates.

| 20 | Whataburger | Burger | 4,311 | 1,161 |
Per-store performance tells the same story: Chick-fil-A has far fewer locations than McDonald's, yet its sales rank third overall; chains like Raising Cane's and In-N-Out thrive on high average unit volumes. Subway still has a massive footprint (roughly 18,800 locations), but its sales only place tenth—store closures (a net drop of about 729 on the list) and weak per-unit output remain familiar issues.
